Amphitrite is a Nereid (Sea Nymph) and through her marriage to Poseidon, the Goddess and Queen of the Sea.


Genealogy and Family[]

Amphitrite is the eldest of the 50 Nereids, being the first born daughter of the sea deities, Nereus and Doris. Thus she has 49 sisters and 1 brother Nerites. She became the wife and Queen consort of Poseidon and mother of their son, Triton and three daughters, Rhodos, Benthesikyme and Kymopoleia.

Role and Significance[]

Amphitrite is considered the female personification of the sea and the loud-moaning mother of fish, seals and dolphins.

Out of the 50 Nereids, Poseidon selected Amphitrite to be his official wife and Queen consort in a ceremony, she however disapproved and swam away from Poseidon to hide from him. Poseidon later sent out dolphins to find Amphitrite, which they did and they persuaded her to give Poseidon a chance telling her that he is a good person. The two bonded and went on to happily marry. One of the Dolphins that bridged the gap between them became Delphinus, a constellation in the Northern Celestial Hemisphere.

Amphitrite is a very competitive person and she wants to keep ocean peace.

Amphitrite is a beautiful, youthful woman. Her true form might be that of a mermaid but most likely she can shapeshift.

  • Amphitrite has control over the ocean and its inhabitants. 
  • She also has control over underwater plants.
