Nymphs are the female spirits of nature. Usually born to the gods in large groups, most rank as minor deities. Nymphs are tied to a physical location or object which dictates their lifespan, each Nymph has powers over an element and are also tasked with taking care of a part of nature, whether that be a physical location (such as a large freshwater, a sea, mountain, the sky etc) or a plant or animal species, each having their own speciality, for example a Potamide (Freshwater Nymph of a River) can create and control freshwater and are tied to a river which they must take care of and preserve to keep living.

There are many different types of Nymphs, with their own unique abilities, such as the:

  • Oreads/ Mountain Nymphs
  • Naiads/Freshwater Nymphs ( which include the Crinaeae/ Naiads of fountains, Eleionomae/ Naiads of wetlands and marshes, Limnades/ Naiads of lakes, Pegaeae/ Naiads of springs, Potameides/ Naiads of rivers and Tagides/ Naiads of the Tagus river)
  • Nereids/ Sea Nymphs
  • Dryads/ Tree Nymphs.
  • Hesperides-a Sisterhood group of Nymphs associated with the west, the evening and sunsets.
  • Aurae/Breeze Nymphs
  • Asteriae/Star Nymphs
  • Rain Nymphs (which include sisterhood groups such as The Hyades and The Pleiades)
  • Nephelai/Cloud Nymphs
  • Alseids/ Nymphs of gloves and glens
  • Auloniades/ Nymphs of valley pastures and glens
  • Leimakides/ Nymphs of meadows
  • Napaeae/ Nymphs of dells
  • Anthousai/ Nymphs of flowers
  • Daphnaeae/ Nymphs of laurel trees
  • Epimeliades/ Nymphs of apple trees, who also protected flocks
  • Kissiae/ Nymphs of ivy trees
  • Meliae/ Nymphs of ash trees
  • Hyleoroi/ Nymphs who watch over the woods
  • Haliae/ Nymphs of seas and seashores
  • Oceanids/ Nymphs of the oceans
  • Nymphs of the underworld (which include the Cocytiae/ Nymphs of river Cocytus and Lampades/ Nymphs who carry torches and accompany Hecate)
