Electra is a Rain Nymph and a member of The Pleiad Nymphs in Greek Mythology, who with her mother and sisters was turned into a star.


Genealogy and Family[]

Electra was born to Atlas, the Titan of strength and endurance and Pleione, one of the elder Oceanids, her sisters are Maia, Taygete, Celaeno, Alcyone, Sterope and Merope and The Hyades. She has one brother named Hyas, a minor god of seasonal rains. Electra would become one of the many lovers of Zeus and had two sons with him: Iasion and Dardanus.

Role and Significance[]

Electra is a member of The Pleaides, Nymphs who had the power and role to bring rain to the earth.

Electra was the foster mother of Harmonia. She and her sisters also safely raised Dionysus, the future god of wine away from his vengeful aunt and stepmother, Hera.

Myths[]

Electra and the other Pleiades were travelling with their mother Pleione in the mountains when they were approached by the giant hunter, Orion, who having fallen in love with Pleione chased after her, Pleione however did not share his feelings and ran away from him with her daughters, with the group fleeing from Orion for years. Zeus taking pity on the women, transformed them into stars which are all part of The Pleaides constellation.

Electra who took the form of a young and beautiful woman as a Nymph, was later turned into a star titled Electra in The Pleiades constellation, alongside her mother and six of her sisters.
