Neaera was a Nymph Goddess of the mythical island of Thrinacia, according to Greek Mythology.

Genealogy and Family[]

Neaera's parents were never recorded in mythological accounts but she may have been a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys. She would become one of the many lovers of Helios, the Titan God of the Sun with whom she had twin daughters, Phaethusa and Lampetia.

Story[]

After Neaera gave birth to her daughters, she sent them to the mythical island of Thrinacia where they would pasture the sacred herds of their father. Lampetia shepherded seven flocks of fifty sheep with a silver crock, while Phaethusa tended seven herds of fifty cattle with a copper staff.

Trivia[]

Her Greek name is Νεαιρα it means 'new rising'.

She may have been a goddess of the dawn or the brilliant blinding rays of the sun.

Her island of Thrinacia might be the same as Trinacria which was an old Greek name for the island of Sicily.
