Paidia is a Greek Goddess of play and amusement and a lesser known member of The Graces.
Role and Significance[]
In Ancient Greece, Paidia was a minor goddess who ruled over play and jest. Though modern translations often emphasize the childishness of play, the reality for the Greeks is that Paidia ruled over all forms of play, even those games that held some form of sacred function. The Goddess, Paidia was identified from Ancient Greek vase paintings, where she often appeared alongside Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, as one of her attendants. There are no surviving written accounts from the classical era of Greece about her, thus there is little evidence to prove that she was worshipped in Ancient Greece.
