Pasiphae is a Greek Goddess of witchcraft and sorcery, she was also a Queen of Crete.
Genealogy and Family[]
Pasiphae was identified as the daughter of the sun god, Helios and the Oceanid Perseis. But some accounts state her mother as the island nymph Crete instead. With King Minos of Crete she had four daughters, Acallis, Ariadne, Xenodike and Phaedra, and four sons, Catreus, Androgeus, Glaucus and Deucalion. With the Cretan Bull, she had Asterion, the Minotaur.
Stories[]
Her husband Minos was tasked by the God Poseidon to sacrifice the most attractive bull to him once every year. In one year, he refused to sacrifice a very attractive bull and chose a lesser attractive one for Poseidon. Out of revenge, Poseidon cursed Pasiphae to fall in love with the bull he was denied, this caused Pasiphae to seek Daedalus, to help her mate with the bull. Daedalus created a hollow cow covered with real cow skin that fooled the Cretan Bull, allowing her to mate with him. Pasiphae became pregnant and gave birth to a half human, half bull creature that fed on human meat. She called the child Asterion, who became known as the Minotaur (bull of Minos).
