The Algea are a group of three goddesses: Lupe, Akhos and Ania who personify pain. A single member was called an Algos.

The Algea were born to Eris without a father or Aether and Gaea, depending on the account.

The Algea are the personifications of pain of the mind and body who are the cause of suffering in living creatures. Lupe represents pain, Achos represents grief and Ania-sorrow. They were the bringers of weeping and tears.

The Algea were related to Oizys, the milder spirit of misery and sadness, and Penthos, the god of mourning and lamentation. Their opposite number were Hedone (Pleasure) and the Kharites (Charites, Joys).
