Horae Serenae- A painting depicting six members.

The Horae are a group consisting of goddesses of time, the seasons, law, order, justice, abundance, prosperity and substance. They include The Hours, daughters of Chronos and Ananke and nine daughters of Zeus and Themis.

Members of The Horae[]

There are four subgroups in The Horae:

The First Triad[]

This group is associated with Aphrodite and Zeus. They help Persephone, take care of the seasons.

Thallo- The goddess of spring, buds, blooms, a protector of youth.

Auxo- The goddess and personification of the season of summer; who is the protector of vegetation and plants, and growth and fertility. Also a member of The Graces with Hegemone.

Carpo- The goddess of autumn, ripening, and harvesting.

The Second Triad[]

This group is associated with Zeus and Themis, they rule over mortals' law and justice, similar to their mother, Themis who rules over divine justice.

Dike -The goddess of moral justice

Eunomia - The goddess of law and legislation

Irene - The goddess of peace

The Third Triad[]

The last triad, described by Hyginus:

Therusa- The goddess of substance and farm estates

Orthosie- The goddess of Abundance

Euporie- The goddess of prosperity

The Horae has furthermore members:

Auge- First light

Anatolê- Sunrise

Mousikê- The morning hour of music and study

Gymnastikê- The morning hour of education, training, gymnastics/exercise

Nymphê -The morning hour of ablutions (bathing, washing)

Mesembria- The noon

Sponde- Libations poured after lunch

Elete- The time of prayer, the first of the afternoon work hours

Akte- The time of eating and pleasure, the second of the afternoon work hours

Hesperis-The end of the afternoon work hours, start of evening

Dysis- The sunset

Arktos- The night sky and constellation.

Genealogy and Family[]

The Hours are the daughters of the primordial gods, Chronos, god of time and Ananke, goddess of neccesity and inevitability. The others are the children of Zeus and Themis.
